My story

Let me introduce myself. I’m Joel, I’m an interior designer and I’m here to help you make the most of your living spaces. I’ll give you insider knowledge, along with inspiration and ideas to help you create a beautiful home environment for you and your family to enjoy.

Ever since I can remember I’ve been captivated by all things interior design. As a child I remember my idea of a good time wasn’t sports, singing or playing dress up, it was going with my parents on weekends to look at new build display homes and open houses. I would literally beg them to take me to look at the big expensive houses for sale in our neighborhood just so I could walk through with my eyes wide admiring every detail, and in most cases, what I could do to make them even better.

Formally qualified in both Urban Planning and Professional Interior Design I began work for my father’s construction company in my late teens. Though initially confined to typical admin work I soon was able to showcase my creative ability by having design input on projects the company took on, including home renovations, restaurants and aged care facilities. It wasn’t until some years later I was given the opportunity to design a coffee shop from scratch located in one of the most popular tourist destinations in my city. I still remember how much I loved every minute of that project which started out as little more than a scribble in a notebook. Seeing that scribble materialize into reality is something that still excites me to this day.

Why I want to help you

As I became more experienced I was able to work on larger commercial projects however I found the most rewarding jobs were the ones I did for private clients. People who invited me into their homes and allowed me to create something beautiful and personal for them.

Sure I had a field day drawing plans and sourcing finishes, but in the end the most rewarding aspect of the process was seeing the looks on their faces when they were finally able to walk into their new space. A look I can liken to my own when I was a kid walking through those grand open homes.

This made me realize just how excited I get by designing interior spaces for people. Our homes are an extension of ourselves. A place we feel most at ease in, a place where we create memories with our family, friends and loved ones, a place which should inspire creativity and motivate us to be the best versions of ourselves we can be.

My goal in creating theinspiredinterior.com is to help you to through this blog create a beautiful home environment for yourself and your family, because you deserve it.

  1. Very inspiring story! I love how you literally begged your parents to take you to look at the big expensive houses for sale in your neighborhood just so you could walk through with your eyes wide admiring every detail, and what you could do to make them even better.

    Thank you for sharing!

    • Thanks for your kind comments Nathalie. I definitely owe it to my parents for caving into my pleas and taking me as they knew how much I loved to go to open houses. They became pros at talking to estate agents pretending to be interested in purchasing. Quite funny really!
